In a project to increase use of public transport in Hanoi and reduce travel times, to promote more environmentally sustainable transport modes and urban development plans, investigations found the team leader improperly influenced the tender processes, solicited bribes and failed to disclose his business relationship with a bidder. In response, the World Bank imposed sanctions, including debarment of an individual and a Spanish-based company.
