In 2020, research by a national and international coalition of civil society organisations exposed tax abuse by two major wood-pulp companies owned by an Indonesian conglomerate. The coalition is carrying out advocacy based on its analysis of bilateral trade data, company financial reports, beneficial ownership records and environmental impacts, to help ensure that companies reliant on forest resources do not defraud Indonesia’s people of funds that can provide public services and help protect their natural resources.
