TI Bangladesh executive director wins international award
Iftekhar Zaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh and Transparency International board member, has received the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) South Asia Award.
The GPSA, an initiative of the World Bank, recently announced the winners of its first GPSA Award for Leadership in Social Accountability. The winners are respected leaders in social accountability, and this award serves as a celebration of their achievements in the field.
The award winners are made up of seven individuals in government and civil society organisations who have made outstanding contributions, influence and impact in the field of social accountability as a means to eradicate poverty and foster shared prosperity.
There are six regional winners – each representing a geographic region: Africa, East Asia and Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, and South Asia. There is also one special Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
The winners are:
- Africa region: Ibrahim Tanko Amidu – Programme Manager, STAR-Ghana (CSO, Ghana)
- East Asia and Pacific region: Corazon Juliano-Soliman – Secretary of Social Welfare and Development (Gov, Philippines)
- Latin America and Caribbean region: Gonzalo Hernández Licona – Executive Secretary, CONEVAL (Gov, Mexico)
- South Asia region: Iftekhar Zaman – Executive Director, Transparency International Bangladesh (CSO, Bangladesh)
- Middle East and North Africa region: Aicha Ech-Chenna – Founder, Solidarite Feminine (CSO, Morocco)
- Eastern Europe and Central Asia: Maia Sandu – Minister of Education (Gov, Moldova)
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Oded Grajew – Founder and General Coordinator, Rede Nossa Sao Paulo (CSO, Brazil)
