judicial transparency and accountability
The effective and transparent performance of the judiciary constitutes an essential element of a successful anti-corruption strategy. Establishing a balance between the twin necessities of judicial independence and accountability is a challenge achievable only with the active participation of interested parties inside and outside of the judiciary.
Creating an effective judiciary is an issue for all countries and one that requires continued attention. For developing countries the challenges are all the greater given the scarcity of the resources and the often greater demands put on the courts and allied institutions. TI intends to focus on this priority by developing projects at the grass-roots level, empowering civil society to hold the courts accountable.
