Transparency International-Israel marks International Anti-Corruption Day with a Parliament Discussion

On Tuesday (9/12), TI-Israel participated in a special Parliament discussion hosted by the State Audit Committee. The discussion took place on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, with participants including the State Comptroller and Attorney General. Transparency International-Israel was represented at the discussion by the organization's Chairman, Professor Yossi Gross.

The State Comptroller and the Attorney General both opened their speeches with references to Israel's marks and rankings in TI's Corruption Perceptions Index published on September.

State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss said in the discussion that "Deterring punishment is needed today especially for transgressions involving "breaches of trust" of public workers, as senior as they may be. On the issue of the integrity of the state and damages to it, it is necessary to turn to whoever is at the top of the pyramid or close to it. We must prosecute to the fullest extent of the law those national leaders whose actions give a negative example for the entire nation. "

Attorney General Adv. Menachem Mazuz said in the discussion that Israel is at the peak of a cleansing process from governmental corruption, and the struggle requires a combination of all relevant elements in the war against corruption. Mazuz pointed out the deterring effects of the actions of the law enforcement system in the fight against corruption and said that there is no individual holds a position above the law, "not the prime minister, not the president, not a rabbi, minister, or judge" and that there is one law for everyone.

In the discussion Professor Yossi Gross presented Israel's position on different corruption scales, such as TI's CPI scale and the World Bank index.

The Parliament discussion included Parliament members, students, and delegates from the nonprofit organization Transparency International-Israel.
