Respect for decisions of the Republic's Board for Resolving Conflict of Interested necessary

Serbia, 19 October 2008

The organisation Transparency–Serbia considers that the decisions of the Republic's Board for Resolving Conflict of Interests needs to be respected and asks officials who are affected by its decisions to withhold from statements that disrespect the Board and its decisions.

Although a situation where officials of cities and municipalities are at the same time Members of Parliament are not necessarily considered a conflict of private and public interest nor abuse, it is obvious that they will not be able to fulfill the duties they have towards both organs in the appropriate time.

We consider that by respecting the Board’s decisions, whose members were elected by National Assembly, Members of Parliament contribute to the performance of the principles proclaimed by the Constitution and the Law on Preventing Conflict of Interest. They show commitment to the fight against corruption in which independent supervising organs have an irreplaceable role.
