The TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated intern to support its work to support its work in Europe and Central Asia.
Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Description of Internship
Main function: Assisting the Europe and Central Asia programme staff
Starting Date: 18th August 2008
Duration: Six months; full time Monday to Friday

Location: Berlin, Germany
As a member of a dedicated, international team the intern’s responsibilities will be diverse.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparation of briefings on anti-corruption issues and/ or countries in Europe and Central Asia
- Communication with TI National Chapters
- Contribution to programme reports
- Responding to internal and external requests for information
- Administrative and financial tasks such as expediting reimbursements, updating internal information systems and filing
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Excellent spoken and written English skills (working language at TI Secretariat)
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, experience organising events is an asset
- Some prior office experience, good knowledge of MS Word applications
- Knowledge of the Europe and Central Asia region
- Studies in political or social science desired
- Some knowledge of and considerable interest in the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption

Internship in the TI-S Governance Unit
The Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated intern for its Governance Unit.

Description of Internship
Main function: TI's internal governance issues and Annual Membership Meeting
Starting Date: Late August/ early September 2008
Duration: three months; full time Monday to Friday
Remuneration: EUR 300 per month, if the internship is not sponsored by a third party
Location: Berlin, Germany
Key responsibilities:
- Assist the preparation of TI’s international Annual Membership Meeting (scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece, in late October 2008).
- Support the Unit’s work in reviewing TI's internal governance
- Assist in correspondence with TI partners throughout the world.
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Excellent English
- Greek and / or German as an advantage
- Solid computer skills (e-mail, MS Word and MS Excel)
- Prior office experience is required
- Experience in conference / event organising as an advantage

Internship at the Americas Department

Main function: TI's America´s Programme

Responsibilities:
As a member of a young, dedicated international team your areas of responsibility will be multifarious. The main tasks will be assisting the team in the preparation of several regional meetings and coordinating the Americas' team participation in regional and international events. Others are:
- Communications: Draft texts for TI's and TILAC's publications, updating the Website
- Research on current affairs
- General assistance to the Americas Team
- Respond to information requests and requests from National Chapters
- Assist the team with daily administrative and financial tasks such as filing, database updating and expediting reimbursement
Requirements:
- Native Spanish and/or English and proficient in the other language, basic knowledge of Portuguese
- Profound knowledge of the region
- Knowledge of Transparency International and its global network
- Studies in International Relations, political or social science, communications desired
- Good organisation and communications skills
- Experience organising events or bigger meetings
- Experience in the NGO sector
- Capacity to work as a part of a team, as well as independently
- Experience with the Internet; computer software skills including Excel and Access

Internship in Water Integrity Network (WIN)
The Water Integrity Network Secretariat, situated in Transparency Berlin, is seeking a highly motivated intern.
The Water Integrity Network (WIN), is a multistakeholder worldwide coalition (including representatives of Government, the private sector and civil society), that has been set up to fight corruption in the water sector. The WIN Secretariat consists of a programme manager, a communication coordinator and an assistant coordinator and is guided by and Interim Steering Committee (ISC).
Description of Internship
Main function: Assisting the WIN Secretariat
Starting Date: 4 August 2008
Duration: Six months; full time Mon - Fri
Remuneration: EUR 300 per month, if the internship is not sponsored by a third party
Location: Berlin, Germany
Key responsibilities:

Assisting the management and staff with the work connected with the WIN Secretariat
Writing, editing and helping produce WIN documentation including reports and presentations - Assist in research, documentation and record-keeping tasks related to programme areas
- Providing administrative support for the WIN’s activities and events including the World Water Week in Stockholm and the International Anticorruption Conference (IACC) to be held in Greece in October 2008. This includes helping in preparation and distribution of background materials, and logistical support when needed
- Assisting in management of the WIN website and assisting with the maintenance and development of WIN databases
- Responding to requests for assistance/information by WIN members
- Conducting literature searches and writing reports on topics selected by the WIN Secretariat
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Strong computer skills (MS WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT) and organizational skills required
- Since the WIN secretariat is small, candidates need to be capable of working independently and taking on responsibilities
- Fluency in either Spanish or French (or both) is a key requirment
- Fluency (spoken and written) in English is an advantage, along with proven writing and editing skills
- Preferred candidates would have some experience in administering international workshops and seminars
- Background in the water sector or environmental management would be an advantage

- Experience using the internet as a communications tool
- Experience performing internet research

Main function: Assisting the different activities of the Public Contracting Global Programme
Starting Date: August 1, 2008

Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the research and documentation of best practices on civil society monitoring of the implementation of public sector projects, in order to create a compilation of best practice for the movement
- Gather information on the implementation of the Integrity Pacts by national chapters and document the similarities and differences in the methodologies applied
- Upload the information on public contracting into the new chapter activity database software and coordinate with chapters to motivate them to update the required information
- Update of the Public Contracting Programme information on the Website and coordinate with the regional departments the update of the public contracting information on the regional WebPages
- Support the organisation of a Workshop on Public Contracting issues within the forthcoming International Anti-Corruption Conference
- Assist in the review of the content of the Handbook on Curbing Corruption in Public Procurement, and coordinate its translation and printing
- Assisting with the preparation of other Public Contracting Programme’s documents.
- Assist in research, documentation, record-keeping, administrative and logistical tasks related to the Programme
Knowledge, experience and skills required:
- Knowledge of public contracting, Public Financial Management and/or associated issues
- Research experience an advantage
- Strong English communication and writing skills
- Spanish knowledge desirable
- Solid computer skills (e-mail, MS Word and MS Excel)
- Website editing experience an advantage
- Experience in conference organising as an advantage
